Task 1 of Work Package 6 in GN5-1 is entitled "Technology" and focuses on three major research areas ranging from Quantum Technology, to Optical Time and Frequency Networks and RARE - Router for Academia, Research & Education. This workshop provides an overview of the ongoing work, the use cases that are being addressed and the roadmap that lies ahead within the current project phase.

      As optical time & frequency transfer as a service has gained interest among NRENs Work Package 6 has put an emphasis on investigating the different options and multi-domain solutions for optical T&F transfer in Europe.

      As quantum technologies mature, there is a need for standardisation. This overview of the current status of standardisation and certification sheds some light on ongoing efforts and ongoing issues to tackle.

      Router for Academia, Research and Education

      RARE is an open source routing platform, used to create a network operating system (NOS) on commodity hardware (a white box switch). RARE uses FreeRtr as a control plane software and is thus often referred to as RARE/freeRtr.
